During the 1775-1783 period, British regiments consisted of 1 battalion, or ten companies of troops. The 8 non flanking companies were called the Battalion Infantry.
Tactics:Linear fighting generally, although colonial terrain, as well as colonial opponents, sometimes dictated more tactical flexibility.
Uniform:There were regimental differences, and the uniform did become lighter and less elaborate as the war went on. But at the beginning of the war the Battalion men wore a tricore hat (hence Hat men), a long wool coat, a shorter buff waist coat, short gaiters, white belting for his cartridge box and bayonet.
Weapons:Either a long land or short land pattern musket and a bayonet.
